Thinking Thursday

Hello, Kitties! I am perched here in my best thinking spot, trying to help the Human out by coming up with an entertaining, funny-but-not-insulting present for a dear, longtime friend turning (gasp) 70. I am concentrating as hard as I can, but I sure could use some help, 'cause ordinarily, you know, I don't waste a lot of brainpower on Human problems.

A new hip?? Heh heh. Sorry. You know my sense of humor. I tried not to think too hard either. How about a cat to keep her/him young.

Don't look at my human - she is the gift certificate queen. That's about as imaginative she gets with gifts.

When my gramma was alive, she said old people don't really need anything, but if they do, it's things like grocery store gift certificates or restaurant certificates. Other than that, she'd say something home made or meaningful. How close a friend? Perhaps a picture frame with a picture of your human and the friend? Or the friend's family? their kitty or doggie? Much as I like the thought of kitten, IF you went that route, supposing they love kitties and dont have one, I'd suggest an older kitty, not to be mean. I wish I'd gotten my gramma an older kitty when she lost her last cat, she didnt want to start over with a kitten, but I think she missed having a kitty for her last several years. Anyway, those are my only thoughts

Star says: Humans are complicated, what better gift is there than nip? Silvervine? MOL Hey, I'm supposedly around that age and all I want is a new toy! :P Why don't you come over and play with me Spitty, I'll steal another toy from mom's stash! hee hee

We can't count that high, otherwise we would've helped!

Why would she need anything but an 8x10 glossy of yours truly? (suitably framed, of course)

I think this is the best one, MOL!

A calender where each month has a picture of you Spitty. You could autograph it, to make it extra special or you could have your photo printed on pillow cases. Older people usually like sweets stuff. If I remember right, there was a chocolate shop in the city you live in that specialized in making very good chocolates in the shape of humans Naughty Bits. They were quite entertaining & tasty at the same time. The gift would certainly be a surprise for your humans' friend. the friend would not have to find a place to display them like a lamp or some stupid gift like that either. Whether it would be insulting or not depends on how good a sense of humor the friend has.
O.K, maybe the Naughty Bits chocolates may not be everyone's cup of tea. How about taking her to see a play or going somewhere for a day trip & lunch. I forgot about the funny part for a second. You could go with her to a Chippendale's kind of show or a Drag Review those are lots of fun. I think those are always fun. Order a copy of the front page headlines from the day they were born (you could put it in a ready made frame). You could have a singing telegram ordered to go to their work or house if there;s a party. You can order one that is funny. They offer more than the stripper ones.
f all else fails, Cheese of the month club is kind of a useful, but funny gift. You can get just about anything by the month now. I entered funny birthday gifts for 70 year old and lot of options came up. My head hurts like Spittys' now so I'm done. Older men we know, like getting a whole bunch of scratch lottery tickets. It's throwing your money away basically, but they like sitting there scratching them & get excited about the possibility if winning big. When my birthday cones around I get a whole can of of Fancy Feast Classic, but I don''t think it would make a human laugh. Good luck

Well we would put our thinking caps on but we think a picture of yours truly is what is needed. Have a tremendous Thursday.

We think your Human should invite her friend over to give you some brushies. That would be the best ever birthday present!

Spitty, that's a hard question. We know that our head peep's father asked for no more gifts, so she gets him fruit of the month subscriptions. So it's something fresh and new all year long.

I LOVE that Singing Telegram idea, Spitty! Tell your Human that mom pit that teaching kitty in my blog with her in mind and did she also notice there was a Bob Dole?

Edible Arrangements are always fun, and tasty! Well, not for cats but humans love them. However, I think the calendar idea with your lovely puss face, Spitty, on each month is a great one.

a mouse! But I think you're right not to waste a lot of brainpower, humans like different gifts than anipals. oh and how about a blankie? it's cold outside...

Well Spitty, my old Dad is turning THE BIG SEVEN OH this year himself.......Mom is in the same quandary about what to get him. He's got everything already - you don't get to that age and NOT have everything right??? So she's going to get something silly. It's a fairly safe bet that silly will get a laugh over "practical" any old day!

Gosh, Spitty, my mom can't even come up with gifts for *us*!

*I* would say Caroline would make a good gift. But you'd probably want her yourself.

Don't waist too much of your time helping your people, we don't think they would help us that much.

Spitty, our grandmeowma just turned 91, we chipped in for a bib and some moist towelettes. Things she can really use.

as soon as you wrote funny but not insulting I knew that loaning you out for the day would not be possible. All the funny things I can think of were gifts that you give to someone turning 50 as well like a can of wd-40 which is both funny and useful.what about finding a really funny card and putting a gift certificate for a manicure in it or pedicure then the card can be funny but the gift can be relaxing and not expensive. Or a new rolodex for all the Dr.
Cards one acquires! Likewise, a pill minder. These items are perhaps to jokey and obvious.

A kitteh would be best.
