Hi Furiends:
For some reason tonight, we were unable to leave comments at any blogspot blogs that have word verification! They all had the same word ("smenita"). We even tried to fool it by clicking to get the disability version (the one that's said aloud) but that didn't work either. We tried rebooting, reloading, repeating and reciting bad words. Don't know if it's just us, but we hope for better luck tomorrow.
This will require a Royal Decree of Painful Punishment for somebody!

Cousin Wally is thankful his Dad rescued him from the shelter and gave him a wonderful home with the soft warm beds, the tasty noms, the fun toys and the ~~annoying~~ lovable sisfur Aggie.
We are featuring Wally today because Cousin Aggie has had much more blog time recently here at SpittySpeaks, and we don't want Wally to feel slighted.
The Human loves watching Wally sleep so cozily in this picture. She can (almost) forgive him for hiding from her the other day. Almost.

P.S. Full disclosure: On a subsequent visit (yesterday), Wally, safe in Dad's arms, allowed many pettings and purred in a most satisfactory way. The Human, in her weakness, has forgiven his previous lapse of courtesy.

The Human went to visit Cousins Aggie and Wally on Furriday. And how did they repay her kind attentions? By darting UTB and staying put, that's how!
That is, staying put until dragged out under protest by their Dad. Only Aggie was subjected to this indignity; Mr. Wally retreated beyond the reach of Human grabby-hands (Good Boy!)
Miss Aggie allowed momentary contact before fleeing to safety once again.
Last night, Aggie's Dad communicated the following: In atonement for fleeing fearfully Friday, she exiled herself to the Green Tent in solitary mourning until she felt cleansed of her sin.

Judging from the above photo attached to her Dad's email, the Green Tent is quite the step up from her usual digs.

And, oh yes, I understand there's a Football Game of some sort today. I will root enthusiastically (cough, cough) for that team from some Large Eastern City that is not Boston.

Cousin Aggie in My Tent

A few short weeks ago, my Human purchased this enchanting tent for me at PetSmart. It is made of a beautiful green suede-y fabric, has an enticing dangly-toy and a soft-as-soft-can-be matching green plaid pillow. It is, in fact, the Cadillac of kitteh tents!

So why, you may ask yourselves, is it not King Spitty's little face you see peering out from inside the cozy tent?

King Spitty will not leave you in suspense, my furriends. The sad troof is, King Spitty did not like or trust this Cadillac of tents. It was too green, too suede-y, too soft and waaaaaaay too cozy.

It has recently been removed to Casa Aggie and Wally. Last weekend, Aggie's dad snapped this picture as proof positive that Aggie, at least, has succumbed to the Siren Song of that soft plaid pillow. Wally has not yet been sighted enjoying a snooze inside. Purrsunally, I think Aggie probably wants it all for herself.

1. I am small for a ManCat but the Human says I am unbelievably strong. If I don't wanna do it, it ain't gonna be happening.

2. I'm a super picky eater. I can make the Human almost weep in frustration by refusing to eat if the food isn't exactly what I want, and exactly what I want is a closely-held royal secret that changes from week to week, or even day to day.

3. I have four favorite places to sleep: On either level of my tower, on the back of the comfy chair in the front window, in my brown cuppy bed, and most of all in my tiny tent in the dining room. I am safe from anything in my Tiny Tent.

4. Making it hard for the Human to get a good picture is my favorite hobby.

5. I am not a snuggly kitty, but often I do follow the Human from room to room--hey! that's not permission to be all grabby-hands with me!

6. I am a very Good Boy. Mostly, I do not scratch the furniture (I love my scratching post!), and I am not a clumsy-oaf of a kitty who breaks stuff.

7. I am really enjoying being King. Thanks again, Glogirly!

Tardy Blog Challenge

My furry, fiery furiend Nellie said that there was a 2nd Annual Pet Blogger Challenge that invited all pet bloggers to answer eight questions about their blogs and publish the answers on January 10th. Well, as you can see, my lame Human missed it by several days, but I decided I wanted to play anyway. So here we are a few days late.

These are my answers to the eight questions:

1. When did you begin your blog? My first post was April 14, 2010.

2. What was your original purpose for starting a blog? The Human had stumbled upon Max the Psychokitty's blog and William of Mass Destruction's blog and a few others, and she was enchanted! She posted comments for at least a year, with no real intention of starting a blog for me. Me, I started an incessant whining campaign and eventually she gave in. I knew I had a lot to say. She wasn't so sure about that. Also, she didn't really think I was fit for polite company.

3. Is your current purpose the same? *I* think it is.

4. Do you blog on a schedule or as the spirit moves you? Well, *I* would like to blog everyday (I mean, who could tire of looking at ME or reading what I have to say?) Our first year, we blogged a few times a week; now we mostly blog every day, though often it's just a picture and a caption. But I luff comments from my furiends like CK and Prancer Pie and others.

5. Are you generating income from your blog? No, and the Human says we have enough money for efurrything we really need, and some of the things we just want, so we does not want to get mixed up with the advertising.

6. What do you like most about blogging in general and your blog in particular? I luf getting to know fabulous kittehs like My Sweet Admiral and the Katnip Lounge and all the rest. I luf my blog because mostly it is all about me, although I allow the Human the occasional post. Very occasional. She had way too many around Krissymouse.

7. What do you like least? I wish my Human would quit her job and stay home with me. Our blog would be a LOT better if she had all day to spend on it. Like she really should.

8. How do you see your blog changing/growing in 2012? Change? I don't like change. And neither does the Human. I don't got to show you no stinkin' change. Change is bad.

You would not believe the ordeal I faced on the very last night of 2011: Strange Humans, right here, in MY very own house, with their booming, grating voices, their braying laughter, their ignorance of expected kitty-courtesies, their raucous singing of what I guess was "Auld Lang Syne," and, worst of all, the smell of them! It will take me weeks, WEEKS, I tell you, to patiently fur over every single trace of them. But I will succeed, Kitties, I will prevail. After all, they are gone and I am still here.

And a further outrage: Before these "Guests" descended upon me, all my stuff--my tent! my brown cuppy bed! my new soft pink beddy! my cube! my ESS! ::sob::--was deemed too unseemly for their delicate guest-eyes, and so was banished to the cold, dark back porch! Can you even imagine the deprivation?

But it is the Dawn of a New Day, my Furiends; 2012 is upon us. No longer will I take such invasions lying down! I have long claws, I have sharp teeth. My strength is as the strength of .... Oh, never mind.

I need a good nap.

The Human and her friend went out to see Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy at the fancy-dancy mall (an oxymoron?) downtown Wednesday night, and as they were walking to a restaurant after the movie, they came upon a bunch of people lying flat on their backs under the big dome that used to be part of the Emporium before they tore everything down and made the stupid fancy-dancy mall, but I digress.

Now, this *is* San Francisco, so people often behave in wacky ways, but even so it seemed....well, odd. So the Human's friend looked up and voila!

Why, hello Furiends! As you can see, I have had enough of festivity and frivolity. Today I am snoozing, gearing up for one last blast of holiday cheer on Caturday when the Human has her annual New Year's Eve pawty.

Now, this is a tiny pawty by official NYE-Pawty Standards (ten total humans), but still, it is nine Humans more than I am entirely comfortable with. Last year, I was quite social (for me), and I will try to be a Good Boy again. No guarantees though. I still might decide that UTB is a wonderfully good place to welcome the New Year.

BTW: The tail? The gently closed eyes? The semi-curled paws? All very high on the Adorability Index, wouldn't you say?

Tom & Jerry's Tree

On a street very near the Human's school live Tom and Jerry, a gay couple who for the past 20+ years have brought true Christmas Spirit to the neighborhood.

The tree is living, a 65-foot Norfolk Island Pine, which they purchased as a house plant in 1973. Every night between December 11th and 24th, Santa Himself visits for about three hours, distributing candy canes and listening to the wishes of children and grown-ups alike. Music plays, carolers sing, toys whirl and spin, and much festivity and frivolity is shared.

It is a wonderful San Francisco tradition!

Since the Human's ~~cheapo~~ inexpensive camera does not take good pictures at night, here are some daytime ones to show detail:

The tree has a nice big fat star (which obviously looks more impressive at night!)

(Still) Not a Garden Tour #11

The Human and a friend had a very ladyified afternoon this week when they went to Afternoon Tea at the Ritz-Carlton hotel downtown. Ordinarily, the Human schlumps around in neighborhood cafes and her own kitchen, but once in awhile, everybody's gotta dress up and act fancy.

They had to climb a Big Hill to get there. This picture, looking back toward Union Square, provided a good excuse to stop and catch her breath.

The hotel looks like a bank from the outside (and you'd probably have to rob one to stay overnight), but there was a pretty tree!

Now here's an oddity. Just inside the main doors were these glass jars filled with unshelled nuts. A nutcracker was thoughtfully provided, and it seems someone had cracked herself a nut or two, but it wasn't the Human or her friend!

Right inside the main doors was tree #2.

This nice man played soothing little background music while the ladies consumed their tiny treats.

And speaking of tiny treats . . . .

After two hours of ladyfication, the Humans headed for home, pausing to take this slightly blurry shot of the BofA building behind the hotel.

And thus ends our 11th Not-A-Garden-Tour--Hope you enjoyed it!

(Did you notice the appalling Lack of Kittehs? Yeah, me too. People never take the kitty anywhere, do they? I mean, I woulda liked me some a them little sandwiches, you know.)

Secret Paws: The Reveal

I don't know if I can stand so much excitement two days in a row!

But guess what?

We opened my Secret Paws present today and it was from CORY and all her brofurs and sisfurs!

Let me show you!!

First, the Human put the open box on the coffee table

and inside was a card addressed to ME!

It was a sweet card from Cory and her pals. She said she got me the toys that they like to play wif themselves.

Underneath the card was a pretty package just for ME!!

Once I peeked inside, I could see that they were wonderful toys!

Once the contents emerged, I could hardly believe my good fortune!!

I mean, just look at the bounty!*

A Kitty Under the Influence

OMC, Kitties!

Gather round, now, because I have a story to tell you, and it's really an exciting one!

It starts with this envelope, all the way from Malaysia!

Inside was a sweet Krissymouse card from my furriends at Whisppy.

And inside that was Silvervine powder. The Whisppy's Human thoughtfully enclosed a nice sheet of instructions for the proper administration of this ambrosial substance!

The Human got out a festive little plate...

. . .and let me have at it!

The Human could not believe her eyes! I mean, I like the Nip okay, depending on my mood, but I never get really crazypants on it or anything. But this stuff, well, THIS was different.

First, I drooled and drooled and consumed every.last.grain of this stuff. Then I schnuzzled and schnarfled the plate, then I fell over right on the table, and rolled and stretched, and drooled and groomed myself, and went all glassy-eyed.

And then I jumped down and then I ran to find my Nip Cigar for some further nuzzling. . .

. . . and then I rolled over under the coffee table and drooled and groomed some more.

And then I had to go UTB for awhile to recover. And then I really, really, really had the munchies so I ate up all my foodz. And then I got in my pink snuggly bed and went to sleep.

I don't think I better have this stuff verreh often or somekitties will have to do an Intervention.

Krissymouse Tree Tour

This is our little curlicue Krissymouse tree that the Human bought a few years ago. It's cute, but I would have preferred a real tree I could nibble on, use as a scratching post, or climb.

But nevermind The Kitty's needs.

This little horn was always on the Krissymouse tree when the Human was just a little girl. It's lost a few sparkly things over the ~~centuries~~ decades, but she is still fond of it.

The Human's mother saved this odd little WWII-era ornament because apparently there was no metal available to make ornaments so they began to make them out of some kind of early plastic. It's not verreh pretty but the Human says it is "interesting." Whatever.

The Human's mother bought this butterfly when the Human was a kid and even though it's too large for our little tree, the Human insists it (and its companion, lower right in tree pic) alight on the tree every year.

This little sugar bowl is all that remains of an ornament "tea set" that was her Grandma's. Sadly, the pot and creamer have been lost in the mists of time (I-had-nuffing-to-do-with-that-I-swear!)

Finally, this Santy is her favorite ornament, another one that belonged to her Grandma. She says it's so old and delicate it might break just by looking at it funny, but I don't really see how that could happen. I've been staring at it a lot though, just to see. So far, nuffing has happened.

I'll let you know if it explodes or anything.

Now, usually the Human's workdays are pretty ordinary, but Furriday was a little more exciting than usual! The Human visited the chem class for a little pre-holiday fun . . .

The Human was even persuaded to try this herself; she says it was really quite a startling experience (I have it on good authority she gave a frightened little yelp, but she says she was just surprised. I'll let the reader decide). She could explain how the trick is done, but she doesn't want to spoil the magic. Hmmmm.

Observing that the very best part of the sunpuddle was falling on the hardwood floor and not the rug, The Human graciously spread out a soft little blanky so I could enjoy the puddle in cushiony comfort. This is the Human's Dad, a Marine who fought bravely in the South Pacific during WWII and then occupied Nagasaki after the atomic bomb was dropped. He survived the war and lived out his life as an honorable and peace-loving man.

He died many years ago, but the Human still misses him and thinks of him with love and gratitude.
