Long Spitty is Long

Hello, Kitties! This weekend was disturbingly sunny and warm for late November.

It reminded the Human of one childhood Thanksgiving Day in Sacramento when the city was sweltering in 90° heat. Her family's home had two fireplaces, one in the living room and the other in the family room. She remembers her mother calling to her dad, "Bill! Come on! Get those fires going!" and her dad replying, "But, Gin, it's ninety degrees out--everyone will melt!"

Her mom insisted it was Thanksgiving so they were damn well going to have fires going, and ultimately she prevailed. The fireplaces blazed merrily away while every door and window stood wide open and the air conditioning blasted.  Great-Aunt Gerry got the Vapors and no one felt much like consuming the giant turkey dinner laid out for them.

But Mama got her fires, so it was all good. I like that story. It illustrates how the world could be if only *I* held that much sway over The Human.

P.S.  Thanks to my Beautiful Katie for my fourth star! And of course I am sending one back to her.  ♥ And thanks to The Island Cats for my fifth!

  2. For a minute, we thought we were on the wrong blog when we saw the striped kitty. MOL

  3. We have fire stories, but none like that. The dad first built smolders, not fires, until the mom showed him how, then they were raging infernos (he set the chimney on fire). The first time the mom tried grilling she had 5-6 foot flames and almost set the deck on fire. Talk about Vapors! Those two pyros aren't allowed near matches anymore.

  4. Who is this brown tabby interloper on King Spitty's blog ? What has happened to our black phlegm boy ? Hang on a minute, let's just look at that extensive rear a minute ? *virtual poke* Hmmmm. Yes, its tutored. And it's got pink beddie fibres in the fur. Yup, that's just our Spitster in a different light. Phew, we were getting worried there'd been an invasion.
Enjoy the sun - we'll see it next in February !

  5. Well, it's not the pink beddy, but it will do, Long Spitty!

  6. My human loves warm weather - and she missed our day-long heat wave here in SoCal 'cause she was at the Cat Show, in the coldest part of the hall. She spent the day in a sweater coat!

BTW, your calendar is going out first thing tomorrow!

Very interesting Thanksgiving story from your human. YOU look not only long in the picture, but also as if YOU have a big of the vapors.

  10. You look very good in sun stripes, Spitty :)

And I can see why your mom, I mean human, wanted that fire so badly. I just had my very first one and I loved it!!

  14. Dang it, don't fill up all your stars before we get to send you one back!! We will, honest! We're just running behind on everything!
You are so long and stripey and bendy!! I could just scoop you up and snuggle you! I'm sure that would just get me the sharp edge of your claws though.. Worth it!

Star says: Spitty dear, I would soo much appreciate the ear licks and face grooming... it's such a trial to have this loud girl making a wreck of my home and not even letting me go where I want! If she leaves anything behind.. I'm going to make my mark on it! heh heh heh
I will force mom to give you your star tomorrow, I promise! XOXOXOXO

  21. Sirrah. you have been remiss in following our blog if you think Mirsku is the only one who reveals his tutoring. Many of us, like you good self, are too furry to show, but the naked ninjas are great exhibitionists, as well as Pekka and Tuomo. However their fur markings are less, erm, obvious. Paksu-poika may as well have a target painted on his bits!

  28. We think Allie must get The Vapors occasionally too! MOL, that's one serious tradition you don't mess with if the fires got stoked on a 90 degree day. We've had to do that when we filmed Christmas footage in mid summer. Peeps think we're crazy!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Spitty, you have a very strange tabby look about you!! It's spooking me!! Your mom's mom was a stickler for tradition, that's for sure mol

    ReplyDelete
  30. That's a great story about the value people place on nostalgia and preserving tradition at all costs. Even the vapors!

  32. Gotta have a fire on holidays. Where mum went for Tday, they didn't have a fire as it was warmish that day. Usually they would have a fire.

  33. Spitty, is that a disguise you're wearing so that you might sneak into the Tabby Cat Club??

That was a good Thanksgiving story.

  34. Wow, Spitty, could you get any longer??

  35. Wanna send some of that warm weather up here pal? There's still some snow on the ground and although the peep managed to wheel the roses into the garage, she still has a whack of pots of lilies to do. purrs
