The Horror! The Horror!

So this map came to our attention about a month ago, and then this week the averages crept even higher (we don't even has the new map yet). The Human and I pray daily to Ceiling Cat that (1) nuffing happens to rent control anytime soon, and (2) that some kind of sanity returns to the housing market asap: $3148* for an ordinary one-bedroom apartment in a so-so neighborhood?
They've all had too much nip. The Human has lived in San Francisco since she moved here for college in 1968, and she cannot believe what has happened in the last five years.
Doesn't matter to me of course; I'm a freeloader.

* Correction: I was one stop off! Whew! Saved $802

  1. Yikes. SF getting like London and Manhattan. Glad you can be a freeloader, Spitty.

  2. But it just shows how much everyone wants to pay to live near you! A highly select neighbourhood.

    But yes, crazypants.

  3. Real estate prices in Sydney are also ridiculously high, Spitty. It's quite worrying. But in your case, I think Punapippuri has a point: your presence has probably pushed prices up in the neighbourhood even higher than they would otherwise be.

  4. I do think it is your fault Spitty! People want to live in your neighborhood in hopes of getting a look at you! I do want to say house prices have gone up in my neighborhood since I moved in.

  5. WE feel you Spitty. As beautiful as San Fran is the cost of living is driving people away. Oh forget about my comment, I'd second Summer's instead :)

  7. That's just crazypants. It was never so good to be a freeloader as it is in San Francisco right now, apparently, so you're doing things right!

  8. It's The King's presence. It draws tourists in, makes for crazy good business and the taxes collected by the City of SF as well as the County that surrounds is excellent. Wherever you go it will always be like that. However, on the other side of the coin, mommy choked on her coffee seeing that. What a horrid amount of money. I hope wages keep pace with it. My other fave brother will be in SF last week of June. I believe there are friends there he will stay with. I think he heads to Sacramento as well. Um..what do you want me to fix for your brekkie?

  13. That is absolutely ridiculous! My apartment complex in the Midwest is doing major exterior updating that will take about two years. I fear our rent will go a lot higher, too :(

  14. O.M.C! I hope rent control never goes away for you and your human, too, Spitty. I mean, imagine how much it would cost under an overpass or bridge or something! Plus, you'd have to stay in a shopping cart! Oh oh oh...I have to rest now.

  15. Mom says that she so isn't surprised. She knows that S.F. is one of the most costly cities to live in. Once our humans left CA in 1972, they could never afford to return. Guess you are lucky Mom Mary doesn't send you out to get a job! MOL! XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

  16. Spitty, you adorn the house, and therefore priceless...NOT freeloading!

  17. Yikes, Spitty. Those rents are positively obscene!

  18. Speaking as another freeloader, why can't the humans stop moaning and start living, even if it is in a box under the freeway!! ;)

  19. OMC Spitty, our mom bean just turned green. Careful Spitty, she might expect you to go to work to help pay for it!

  20. Mommy is happy that wes has a mortgage on the condo in Calgary, if wes did not, renting it would be $1000-$2000 MORE! Mes thinks my human brother is getting a deal (even if he has to lives with mes and Mommy sometimes)

  22. Holy Cannoli! Those prices are insane. That’s why the peeps bought a condo. At least they own the place.

  23. Ouch! Are you gonna need to get a job, Spitty?

  24. S.F. housing prices are insane. Maybe you should move back to Sacramento where they're just crazy.

  26. That is FRIGHTENING!!!! Your Mom might have to get three jobs at those ridiculous prices! You can have a huge house on an acreage back here for that kind of payment!
