Sunday Selfie: My First Post

I am Gigi. I am a girlcat, a Calico, about 7 years old. In the Long Ago times, I was probably someone's pet. Somehow, though, I ended up in a feral colony in the East Bay for several years. About three months ago, my heroes Linda and Peter (aka Mom L and Dad P on Savannah's Paw Tracks) took me home to foster me and see if I could re-learn to live in a house with Humans. I did pretty well, and just about the time they were starting to look for someone to adopt me, the Lady who lives here was starting to look for a new kitty to love. (While Linda and Peter worked with me, she had a foster cat named Maggie for about two months.) But finally, earlier this week, I arrived at my new furever home.

Last Tuesday afternoon, I was escorted to this Lady's house in San Francisco. To tell you the whole truth, I was maybe just the littlest bit high on something, as I was just a wee bit uncooperative about getting into my carrier, and I don't really remember exactly how it was that I got here. I do know I haven't seen the sun since!

See how happy and comfortable I look? Well, that's because I was still just the tiniest bit high as a kite, and everything seemed purrfect! I was seeing all the rainbows!

The next couple of days were maybe not quite as glorious as that memorable Tuesday, and I confess I was UTB for substantial portions of those days. Still, the service has been excellent; the food is fresh and plentiful, litter deposits are whisked away within minutes, and playtimes are reasonably frequent (and I have to admit that it is I who sometimes declines to participate).

I really love this little tent. It may look like cheap nylon, but I am sure it really is made of impenetrable iron that will protect me from invading fingers and hands. I don't mind her looking at me, or talking to me, or even singing to me (right now she is alternating between Blondie's Tide Is High and Brahms Lullaby), but get too close or too grabby, and all bets are off. I have a mean left hook, which I have (thus far) had no reason to deploy.

I have explored the apartment a little bit, but mostly I hang out in the bedroom (which is mine now, as the Lady has banished herself to the blow-up bed in the dining room. Good thing, too, because if she hadn't I would have had to). Overall, things have gone pretty well. I guess there was somekitty named Spitty who lived here before me, and he taught her very well how to respect boundaries or pay the consequences. I thank him for that as it should make my job easier, don't you think?

Well, that's it for now. The Lady says I can talk to you next Sunday, or maybe even before that if I am very, very good. We'll have to wait and see what happens next. I am super glad to meet all of you!

Welcome, Gigi. You will do Spitty proud. You've already got the bedroom to yourself, so you're on track for complete domination.

Gigi! What a gorgeous lady cat you are. You have found a really wonderful human. Mr. Spitty has trained her extremely well (She is sleeping in the dining room and you are in the bedroom!) We are so looking forward to learning more about you. And we hope that you do start to enjoy your new human.

Woot ! Welcome to your blog, Madame Gigi, Queen of the Quilt ! You have landed on your paws there, as the Lady, the Human, the Staff is so well-trained and will be devoted to your whims and needs. We confess to watching your progress as Ă„iti and the Human have their online Scrabble battles, and we think that your tortie-calicotude is not too far beneath the surface. Afterall, you have exiled the Human to the living room to sleep now for a fair few days. Anyway, we send you greetings from Finland (N) and feel King Spitty would be proud to see The Next Kitty is a beautiful girlcat, with the peachiest rear end and tailio ever, and cutest little chinny. Here's to a long, happy and safe life for you in SF's best kitty Castle.

Nice to meet you, Gigi! You are a calico girl for sure, and your attitude reminds my human of the calico cat she had a couple of decades ago. I think you wound up in an awesome home!

You have the best of homes now and you know your staff respect you totally as a calico CAT. We confess you look fearsome but with a cute edge that might soften (sometime, no rush).

Well, every cat has different boundaries, don't they. So you may still have to teach one of yours to your new servant/slave.

It's lovely to meet you, Gigi. You are very fortunate in your choice of home as your new human had already been well trained by Spitty. Very well done on getting the bed and making her sleep elsewhere. I look forward to seeing you again soon.

Welcome aboard Gigi. It's wonderful to meet you.

Unlike the others who have commented, I'm going to issue a mild warning: King Spitty worked tirelessly over many many years to train your Human. He tried everything he could think of but the rewards were few.

It is generous of you to note that the food is fresh and plentiful, litter deposits are whisked away within minutes, and playtimes are reasonably frequent. However, for those who have never been feral-like kitties, these are the absolute bare minimum requirements. With your background, it's understandable that you are more appreciative than most.

But, once you get settled in, I urge you to get stuck into continuing to train the Human. If Spitty learned anything, it was that he needed to keep things simple and repeat, repeat, repeat everything over and over. I'm always here to assist in whatever way I can - just ask.

Mind you, the fact that you have been able to install yourself in the bedroom and banished the Human to sleeping on a blow-up bed in the loungeroom is an extraordinarily impressive start. Well done!

I look forward to reading your frequent posts (!!) Just let the Human know that you have lots of share and many questions to ask, and posting at least once each day will be a must.

Good to know you follow the Ancient Times where all Castle Fools were to sleep outside the door of the Royal bed chamber. Nice of you to give her a blow up bed rather than a flat carpet scrap. She does try.

I know your true purrrsonality will emerge as we get to know you when you choose to reveal yourself.

We await learning all about you darling one and look forward to hearing your own voice. Welcome to catBliss.1.01.

Gigi you are such a pretty girl and I think once you adjust to your new surroundings you are going to know you're at last in your FOREVER home with a very nice Lady! You look like you are liking your new "digs" and I think that before long, you will allow your new caretaker more privileges in regards to petting and spoiling and all the stuff your predecessor there, KING SPITTY enjoyed. I'm looking forward to seeing your progress!!!!

Hugs, Teddy

Gigi we are just finding out about all this. Our human needs a stern meowing too but that aside. Spitty was quite the King of this area and we know he taught this human well. You will find her compliant and that she will do your bidding with little more than a wave of your paw. So glad you made it to your new home

OH welcome dear Gigi. I can't wait to get to know you. We ladycats have a Society of LadyCats where we meet frequently and speak of Spilttola and all his adventures both "out there" and within cozy quarters. I am extra glad to see that dear Panful face still on the blog header. But as you get to feeling in charge and not concerned about your Mom going off the deep and undoing something you would prefer not happen, let's get together. A sleep over. My mom is fully trained.
