Spitty - this happens EVERY year and she should know better by now. It will probably be worse this year because of the retirement, with friends wanting to help her celebrate. If she feels that she must engage in these activities, then it's beholden on her to make alternative arrangements - hiring in other beins to provide you with services on her behalf.
But I've figured out why she doesn't do that. It's because she's concerned that other beins will demonstrate to you just how much you're missing out on by tolerating her ongoing poor performance!!!
As for the black market in thumbs - I've said it before. Thumbs are not special. They're not scarce. In fact, there are more than 12 billion of the little buggers on the planet. Do not let her fool you into thinking that hers are especially clever or sophisticated. They're as common as muck.
