Maybe you just have to content yourself with just being King. Or change your religion. Or change the religion - after all as Pope you would indeedy make the rules. Appoint some free thinking cardinals, change the constitution (or whatever it is called) and then invite the ladycats in. Where there's a will, there's a way.
