News from My Perch

So as even non-California residents know, we are in the midst of a terrible, years-long drought. While most of the attention falls on agriculture, today I want to spotlight the Aunties' back yard which I observe carefully for several hours each morning and evening.

As you can see, the lawn, alas, she is no more. Soon, however, the lovely smooth dirt you see spread out so delightfully below will be covered up by . . . yes, you guessed it: Beautiful artificial turf, just like them hated Cowboys play on in Dallas. Stay tuned, Kitties!

Interesting, Spitty. Will it be the padded kind with the black rubber pellets?

Dislike - you can't scritch and pee on that artificial stuff.
But we dislike the drought even more.

I have heard of people who jsut spray paint their "lawns". What about some green stones? Or even tan stones!

Our Mommy was very impressed with the Katnip Lounge kittehz' yard. It wasn't grass at all and was quite nice!

My human isn't a fan of the artificial turf... of course, anything is better than her mostly brown front yard, though!

The drought is awful, Spitty. I guess that artificial lawn will look good even though it's not natural.

Thing is, that becomes faded with time and sun. Is she sure she wants to deal with that aspect a few years down the road? And yes, I left you a note on comments under yours. xoxox

A rug in the backyard? Wow, who'd of thought. I was at NOAA.gov yesterday, and was looking at the drought map. I'd invite y'all to move to Michigan (surrounded by LAKES) but we already have enough traffic! Spitty, you can come to visit, though...

As long as they don't add artificial cats to it!

Makes a lot of sense to go with fake grass or pebbles or something if you can't maintain the grass due to water issues.....The only "alternative lawn" thing I don't like to see is green-painted cement!!! HAHAHA

NOOOOOOOOO! Not Astroturf!! Can’t she use mulch although mulch makes mushrooms but you need moisture for mushroom and you ain’t got no rain.

Spitty, will the woman cart you down to the yard so you can try it out & declare the ass-tro-truff a royal Yah or Nay? Maybe if ya make your pretty green eyes all squinty the ass-tro-turff will look like the real thing. As your neighbors to the North in Orygun, we has the droughts too. The sky is all smokey from the forest fires & grass fires. Our human said she doesn't think there will be any pretty colored Fall leaves this year either 'cuz of the drought. The ground is so dry that the tree leaves are turnin' ugly brown & crumpling up dead on the branches. We heard we might get a little rain Friday, so all you cats do the rain dance for us kit-tehs that lives where there is droughts..

Mom bean says there are getting to be more of the artificial turf lawns here too and we hasn't had the drought. Our front yard is zero-scaped, 'cept for the elbenty containers of flowers!

Have fun watching the work get done Spitty!
